INTRODUCTION: NGS Foods Private Limited (NGS Foods), founded in the year 2021, had become one of the fastest growing fast food retail outlets in India and a popular one. Experts attributed its success to the training and development initiatives taken by its founder L. K. Suresh (Suresh), much before the first outlet started operating in Chennai on October 10, 2021. Suresh, who returned to India from the United States during the Covid 19 pandemic, had worked for about 16 years in a global fast-food giant headquartered in Florida as a senior HR executive. Given his experience in the industry, Suresh started NGS Foods with the vision of offering a cost-effective alternative to vegetarian and non-vegetarian fast food in India. For this purpose, he hired fresh hotel management graduates from some of the renowned institutes in the country. However, as many of them had graduated during the pandemic and had studied via the online mode during the last year of their program, Suresh was keen on training them before the company came into existence through its first dining outlet. A budget of INR 600,000 was allocated to train 43 new hires for multiple positions in the startup. For this purpose, a Bengaluru based consultancy firm, Anubhava Training Solutions Private Limited (Anubhava), known for its effective training services, was contacted by Suresh. After a few rounds of meetings and deliberations, a contract was signed between him and the Managing Director of Anubhava for designing and conducting a two-week long training program of nearly 120 hours. Of the total amount allocated for this training, the major portion went toward consultant fees – INR 235,000. The off-site training facility/room rental for 15 days was INR 165,000. Additionally, the training supplies and program material cost INR 73,000. The cost of refreshments for the trainees was INR 31,000. Finally, the cost of travel and lodging for the trainees and the training staff was billed at INR 1, 95,000.. |
