Abstract: Jungle Jim's International Market, situated in Fairfield, Ohio, about 20 miles north of Cincinnati, is a sprawling specialty food market in a theme park-like atmosphere. With more than 285,000 square feet of shopping area all under one roof, and food from 72 countries, US National Association for the Specialty Foods Trade recognises it as one of the best international food stores in the US. Its exotic offerings like dried lotus blossoms, pigs' heads, baby octopus salad, canned blue corn fungus, ostrich eggs and many more, attract more than 50,000 people every week.

Jungle Jim's has carved a niche for itself by the dual emphasis on shopping as entertainment and specialty foods. Though the strategy has insulated Jungle Jim's from the price wars, it is only to some extent and its sales were threatened by the entry of Wal-Mart stores, Kroger and other department stores into its region.
