Abstract: France-based Carrefour is by far the largest retailer in Europe. With its hypermarket chain established in 30 countries, Carrefour is the world's second-largest retailer after Wal-Mart. However, economic recession in its home-market of Europe has caused Carrefour's sales to decline, while the market share of its rival discount chains continues to grow.
