Burger King: A Brief History Burger King's first restaurant called 'Insta Burger King' was opened in 1954 at Miami, Florida. The proprietors, James McLamore (McLamore) and David Edgerton (Edgerton), were alumni of The Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. Burger King in China On June 28th 2005, Burger King opened its first outlet at Shanghai in China. This was 15 years after arch rivals McDonald's and 18 years after KFC had forayed into China.
