Abstract: The main focus of this case is on examining the behavior of income, consumption, and investment expenditure over the course of business cycles by comparing the annual percentage change of output and consumption expenditures. In addition, it is designed to examine whether or not all components of consumption or investment behave similarly.

For example, if income rises or falls what is the behavior of consumption and investment?

Pedagogical Objectives:

  • Analyze the impact of policy changes on consumption and investment
  • Study the Indian five year plans and policy changes over the years and their impact on consumption and investment
  • Understand how wars, drought, emergency, etc. affected consumption over business cycles
  • Understand the subjective factors and objective factors that may have an influence on both private and government consumption in India over the business cycles
  • Analyze the changes in the consumption and investment indicators taking the pre- and post-plan periods into account and argue your case for a radical shift in the national economic policy.
