Introduction: In June 2013, a UK demolition company, North Eastern Maritime Offshore Cluster Ltd (NEMOC), was convicted of manslaughter in a case involving the death of an employee at a worksite. In addition, Allan Turnbull (Turnbull), 61, who headed A&H Site Line Boring and Machining , was found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence and was sentenced to three years in prison. Turnbull had earlier pleaded guilty to violating general-duty provisions of the UK’s Health and Safety at Work Act. The director of the general contractor that hired A&H was also fined in the case for putting the victim at risk. Industry observers and social activists had been insisting for a long time that immediate attention be paid to the safety concerns of workers in such projects.
