In 2008, Nissan won appreciation for its Women in the Driver's Seat initiative. Nissan worked toward increasing women's empowerment in business in Japan.

This step was taken after research indentified that women were influencers of two-thirds of all car purchases.4 Nissan sought to promote diversity through various strategies like women engagement, their education, and their advancement.

'The Nissan Way' - its principles and values - included diversity and encouraging employees in the organization. Nissan also provided specialized "Career Advisors" for women to advise them on their career advancement.

'The Nissan Way' was a Clear Management Philosophy which stated, "the focus is the customer, the driving force is value creation, and the measurement of success is profit."5...
