JPMorgan Chase & Co, the second-largest financial services firm in the US took over the sixth-largest bank in the country, BANK ONE, in 2004 for approximately $60 billion on a stock deal.

The deal extended JP Morgan Chase's branch network to the Midwest and South and strengthened its retail operations. Formed in 2001 by the merger of Chase Manhattan and JP Morgan, JP Morgan Chase also had significant investment banking and asset management operations.

In 2004, JP Morgan Chase recorded revenue of $56 billion and a net income of $4 billion.
